5 December 2016 – South African-based media monitoring company, Newsclip, recently took part in Movember, raising a total of R10 102 in the process.
In case you missed it, Movember is an annual event that encourages men to start the month of November clean shaven and ‘grow a mo’ to raise awareness and funds for men’s health.
Newsclip pledged to make a donation for each person within the company who committed to growing a mo. Seventeen men started off the month fresh-faced and emerged 30 days later with a variety of interesting mos. Employees were invited to vote for the most impressive mo, and there was one clear winner. Additional funds were collected during November through a number of activities. The proceeds from a bake sale, raffle, and a boerewors braai were donated to the cause. The Cape Town and Durban offices also played their part by having weekly bake sales and a second-hand book sale.
According to the Movember Foundation website, which tracks the donations and progress throughout the month, at the time of publishing, Newsclip was ranked 39th nationally.
Across the globe, the mos have been shaved and the funds have been raised, but the purpose of the campaign should not be forgotten. Find out more about the campaign
