11 August 2015 – In support of Reach For A Dream’s annual Slipper Day, Newsclip staff across the country proudly wore their stickers and slippers to work on Friday, 7 August. All the funds raised from Slipper Day will be used to make the dreams of children with terminal diseases come true.
Members from the Newsclip Johannesburg branch joined pro bono client Reach For A Dream at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital to spread some joy in the children’s wards. Along with sponsors Wimpy, who handed out kiddies meals and milkshakes, Reach for A Dream delivered cupcakes and slippers to the brave children battling sickness.
Everyone’s efforts were definitely appreciated, with huge smiles radiating from the beds and halls of the hospital.
Newsclip made a corporate donation to Reach for Dream, which saw a contribution of R10 made on behalf of each staff member in the Newsclip Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban offices. Wearing their stickers enabled staff to wear their slippers to work, which created an element of fun in the offices; a perfect way to start off a long weekend.
In total Reach For A Dream raised R2.66-million in 2014. This year they aim to raise R4-million to make the dreams of sick children come true. No dream is too small or too big, and range from children wanting to see the ocean for the first time, taking a drive in a Ferrari, a flight in a helicopter, becoming a doctor for the day or even visiting Disney World.
Slipper Day first started in Durban as, at the time, Reach For A Dream believed “only people in Durban would wear their slippers to work”, but they were proved wrong as it took off in Johannesburg too. In 2014, Slipper Day trended on Twitter, and now, with the launch of the website, 2015 was even bigger and better.
“All funds and proceeds raised through our Slipper Day campaign will help put a smile on the faces of the foundation’s ‘Dream Children’,” says Bronwyn Feldwick-Davis, national marketing and communications manager of the Reach For A Dream Foundation.
“Reach For A Dream prides itself on the countless children who have benefitted through the generous support of companies such as Wimpy,” adds Feldwick-Davis.
The 2015 theme, ‘Don’t let their dreams disappear’, encouraged those who can to help a make child’s dream come true.
